Qianhai Spring

Spring is in bloom at Qianhai. Leaves have reappeared on the branches, and the flowering trees are starting to bloom. It is quite a transformation to witness, to see the lake come alive with greenery, having been in this area many times in the cold winter.
Qian Hai, or Lotus Lake, got its name from the lotus flowers that were in bloom in the lake. It is right across the street from the north gate of Beihai Park. It was a bustling commercial center at the turn of the century. In the spring and summer months, this area would be teeming with commercial activity. Today, it is well known for its restaurants that offer a variety of cuisines as well as lakeside dining. The views are spectacular during the day and even more so at night when the whole area is lit up by the warm glow coming from the restaurants. Popular options include sitting at the side of the lake or a window seat inside the restaurant with the ceiling-to-floor windows open for a fresh breeze. It is really busy in the evenings,a nd the experience is truly unique and amazing.
